Regulation and inspection of children's social care
The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) no longer has
responsibility for regulating and inspecting children’s social care
services.
As part of the Government’s Every Child Matters programme, and
as a result of the Children Act 2004, these responsibilities were
passed to Ofsted from 1 April 2007.
We have worked with Ofsted to make sure this move happened as
smoothly as possible.
We keep our statutory duty to safeguard and promote the rights
and welfare of children who may use the services that we will
continue to register and regulate. These include domiciliary care,
nurses agencies, specialist further education colleges registered
as care homes, and some rehabilitation establishments.
We will also maintain our keen interest in the transition from
children’s to adults’ services.
