CSCI gives evidence to the Public Bill Committee
9 January 2008
On Tuesday 8 January, CSCI gave oral evidence to the
Health and Social Care Public Bill Committee.
The Health and Social Care Bill, which will create a new
regulator, the Care Quality Commission, to replace CSCI, the
Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Act Commission, is
currently progressing through Parliament. The Public Bill Committee
is made up of a group of MPs who review and, where necessary, make
amendments to the Bill before voting to pass it on to the next
stage of the process.
The Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Act Commission
also gave evidence at the same time. The Chairs and Chief
Inspectors of all three Commissions answered MPs’ questions about
the Bill's proposals.
