Dame Denise Platt wins Public Servant of the Year 2008

CSCI Chair Dame Denise Platt has been named Public Servant of the Year in the 2008 Dods and Scottish Widows Women in Public Life Awards.

The Awards celebrate women leaders in society, recognising and promoting the work of women in politics, business, the civil service and community leadership. The award of Public Servant of the Year is made to the most effective woman in the public sector at either a national, regional or local level who has demonstrated real achievement in their field of work in the last year. MPs, Members of the House of Lords and lobby journalists vote for the winner of each award following shortlisting by a panel of judges.

Cabinet Secretary, Sir Gus O’Donnell, presented the award at a reception in London last night (27th February).

Commenting on her achievement Dame Denise Platt said:

"I am very honoured to receive this award. It is a privilege to be Chair of the Commission for Social Care Inspection and to have had the opportunity to ensure that the voices and concerns of the people that rely on social care services are amplified and heard. As a Commission, we have always tried to put the people that use services first in every aspect of our work. It is very rewarding that the work the Commission has done is recognised by this award."

CSCI is the single inspectorate for adult social care in England, responsible for regulating and inspecting social care providers –whether in the public or independent sector – and for assessing the performance of local councils in delivering their personal social services functions.

The Commission’s primary aim is to improve social care by putting the needs of people who use care services first.
