Inspection reports for care services

After each inspection we publish a report on our findings.

The report refers to the government’s National Minimum Standards which form the basis of what people should expect from care services. The report will say how well the service provides good outcomes for the people who use it.

An inspection report may also include a quality rating, ranging from zero stars (poor) to three stars (excellent), making it easier for you to choose and compare services.

We send a copy of the report to the service's owner and manager, who have 28 days to make any comments.

We keep their comments for our records and publish the final report on our website.

Putting things right

Our inspector's report will say what the service does well and what it needs to do to improve.

If things are going wrong, our inspectors work with the service to make sure improvements happen quickly.

We also have legal powers to insist on changes.

If things don’t improve, or if people are not being looked after properly, we can take action to close down a service.
