Councils and us
Councils must make sure the people they serve receive
high-quality social care services.
Some councils run their own care services, as well as regularly
buying in services from independent providers. We assess how well
councils do this.
Every year we give each council a star
rating that shows how well the council is performing and its
ability to improve in the future.
One of our main roles is to assess whether local councils use
their resources effectively, and whether local people get value for
money.
We assess whether the care services delivered actually meet the
needs of the people who use them.
