Trying to cope
So the pressure on Dawn just grew and grew.
“I was on anti-depressants from the doctor, and I was getting
some care support at this time. I would meet once a week with a
local care support worker in a cafe. But it didn’t really help me.
I would just sit and cry. I think it made me worse as I’m the sort
of person who’d rather just get on with things than wallow in the
pain of it all.
“ So I just kept going, telling myself that I could cope. But in
the end, it was if my body was insisting that I had to stop. It
just stopped working. I couldn’t eat or go to the loo for about
three weeks and I was quite suicidal.”
It was then that Gerry realised that matters were getting quite
serious and that Dawn needed professional help. So he took her to
the local hospital.
