Here are some things to think about when you visit a care home.

Your things:

• Can you keep your own things in your room? For example, photos, a TV and furniture?

Food:

• Do you have a choice about the food you eat?
• Can the care home give you the right food if you can only eat certain things?
• Can your family or friends visit the home for a meal?
• Can you make your own food if you want? For example, if you get hungry in the middle of the night?

Visits:

• Can people visit you at any time?

Telephone calls:

• Can you keep a phone in your room to make private calls?
• Can you have a private conversation if you have to share a phone with other people?

Visiting other places:

Can you leave the care home easily? For example, if you want to go to the shops or to the pub or a club in the evening?
