Social care services are not free for everyone.
The council will ask you to pay for some or all of your social
care service depending on how much money you have.
For example, if you earn enough money to pay for your social
care service or if you have enough money in savings. Savings is
money that you have put away in a bank or building society.
How will the council decide if I need to pay for my
social care service?
Your local council will arrange for you to have a
financial assessment.
A financial assessment is when someone from the social services
department of your local council will talk to you about how much
money you have.
They may also talk to other people. For example, someone you
live with, your family or your friends.
The council will look at how much money you spend on things like
rent, council tax and gas and electricity bills.
The council will then decide if you need to pay for any of your
social care service.
